Visual design for presentations
Presentation Makeover Week is a perfect time to discover visual design. Learn the norms that are widely accepted by graphic designers, visual artists, and photographers. After that, if you don’t follow the conventions when developing presentations, it will be a deliberate decision instead of a mistake.
Four resources to help you get started
The image at the top links to one of three excellent quick reference posters developed by Paper Leaf Design. The slide show immediately above is by Valencia College professor Chiara Ojeda. Besides setting a good example, it has lots of practical information. In the video below, presentation guru Nancy Duarte gives the Harvard Business Review a quick look at corporate presentation practices. Finally, Garr Reynolds’ Presentation Zen is my favorite book on this topic; it’s an easy read with lots of colorful and practical examples.
