Seven games for learning

February 16, 2011

At the 2o11 Horizon Report release event on Monday, Todd Bryant (Dickinson College) and Libby Evans (UNC Chapel Hill) presented a great rundown of games for learning. Todd has summarized the whole thing nicely on his blog, bless his heart, but I thought I would pull out a few titles that particularly intrigued me. I can’t wait to play them all!

  1. Global warming interactive – funded by the NSF
  2. Inside the Haiti Earthquake – includes documentary video footage
  3. Alice and Kev – homeless characters that cam be used in The Sims 3
  4. Portal – required “reading” for a course at Wabash College
  5. Econ 201– this microeconomics game is a course at UNC Greensboro
  6. Moonbase Alpha – an immersive 3D game designed to inspire STEM education
  7. Venatio Creo – okay this one’s not a game, it’s a game development platform created by students from Ursinus College
