Add a Section Description for Course

February 16, 2011

I love Notre Dame students – love working with them. This week I heard about a problem from Mike Ryan.  Currently on his course list he sees:

SP11-CE-30160
Section Instructor: Elizabeth Kerr
SP11-CE-30510
Section Instructor: Elizabeth Kerr

…and he is constantly clicking the wrong link. So today’s tip is for Instructors. Do you want your course link to stand out, with a description? Perhaps bolded, italicized or even colored? Here are several styles I point out with red arrows below.

You can add such a descriptor by navigating inside your course section > Click “Manage Course” button > Choose “Settings” > “My Concourse” (located about halfway down the middle column labeled “Tools,” of course-specific settings options). Text, bold, italic, or bold & italic, and a hex color code can be added. (You can choose the hex code from a web color palette such as Visibone here).

Notre Dame’s LMS, “Concourse” is currently powered by Blackboard Vista 8.0.3

Thank you, Laura, this is a great trick to help a course stand out on a long list! I appreciate the link to the color palette as well!
