We’re going to heaven in a wheelbarrow
July 25, 2013
The title of this post comes from an old euphemism that actually means we’re going in the opposite direction … There have always been skeptics of the changes that define “modern life.” The XKCD comic linked above has some great examples from 100-100 years ago. Some predictions from the past:
- Socrates: writing “will produce forgetfulness in the mind“
- About the printing press: without hand-copying, clerics will not fully experience the scriptures
- Telephones will “break up home life and the old practice of visiting friends“
- Electricity in homes will make it easy for evil-doers to prey on women and children
