Learning journey – video map

July 8, 2013

Google Earth Tour

I created this video for the third “make” of the Connected Learning MOOC. One of the suggested activities for “Make Cycle Three: Reflections and Connections” was to map one’s learning journey. I took that literally and made a map with most of the places where I have been involved with formal learning, both as a student and as an educator. It turns out that I’m pretty much a Great Lakes guy.

started with a Google Map, and then created a second version with the new Google Maps engine. Both were okay, but thought it would be fun have an animated map, so I used Google Earth’s “tour” functionality. I thought about adding a narration or some titles to explain what happened at each location , but there’s never enough time …

I captured the video with SnapzPro, then added a soundtrack and titles with iMovie. The soundtrack is “Run” by the Clox from beatpick.com (used with permission).

I appreciate the reflection on what you did, and what didn’t meet your needs, and how you adapted tools to fit what you wanted to accomplish. Wondering about doing the same with the #clmooc collaborative map.
