Get steadier mobile video with a Smoothee
Andy Rush posted a great piece the other day, The Steadicam of Life, about how we view technology in education. Andy’s metaphorical Steadicam is an actual device that reduces the effects of a camera operator’s movements. It’s an extension of the human body that helps the camera “see” the way a human sees. As this technology has transformed filmmaking, Andy says, so have others provided amazing opportunities for education.
As well as provoking thoughts about educational technology, the article mentions a relatively new Steadicam for smaller devices, the Smoothee. This $169 device ($130 street price) helps turn what would be shaky movies into more professional looking results. It seems like this would be a great piece of equipment for educational institutions to have on hand. A single shared Smoothee could allow many students to use a digital camera, iPhone, GoPro or other device they already own to produce better results.
