Prezi adds audio

March 15, 2013

In January of this year Prezi added sound to its capabilities. The feature was created with voiceovers in mind — for material that is to be displayed online. Below is a sample by Prezi’s Steve Wishman (iOS users with Prezi Viewer can see it here).

You can add two kinds of sounds:

  1. A background track that plays continuously while you view the prezi.
  2. A sound that starts playing when you reach a specific step and stops when you move on

adding sound to a prezi pathEither way, you’ll be using the “Insert” menu in the editor. To do the second type, start by selecting a path step on the left side of the screen. Prezi supports MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, and several other audio file formats. For details, see the excellent help page Adding sound to your prezi.

If you’re not creating prezis for online use, please be judicious with this new toy. Don’t get carried away and add sound to every step in a path; students will revolt if you play twenty cute sound effects in succession!
