Thought-provoking Project Glass video

May 24, 2012

A number of developers are working on wearable displays that look something like a pair of glasses and provide the functionality of a camera, phone, media player, and more. Some of the devices incorporates augmented reality, displaying location-specific information to the user. This may seem far off, but I believe we’re talking about months, not years.

Google’s Project Glass recently released a concept video that dramatizes what it might be like to use this technology. As with any such video, it’s unlikely that the real thing will work exactly like the concept — parts of it will fall short and others will exceed expectations. The great thing about the video is that it puts an upbeat face on the technology and gets people thinking about how they might use it.

Two videos from other sources help fill out the picture. Google Project Glass: Explained! includes a look at the downside of the technology, while Google Glasses (how it works) extends the idea and provides additional commentary.
