1940 Census project still needs help
Nearly 40% of the records from the 1940 US Census have been indexed in the 45 days since they were released; that still leaves about two million households. I have indexed a couple dozen pages, which I’m sure is not many in comparison with the “true believers.”
A dozen or so states are completely indexed and ready for searching, but only 4% of my home state of New York is done at this point. That’s why I have not been able to find my father; he was a student at the time and I don’t have his address. I’ll just have to be patient. If you have been thinking about participating in this project, there’s still plenty of time. The work will almost certainly continue at least through the month of June, so students in summer courses could easily participate. To learn more, click the logo.
