Powerful video of poem on teaching
I am a huge fan of teacher/poet Taylor Mali and have read his poetry – especially “Undivided Attention” – at numerous faculty gatherings. In the year 2000 Mali set a personal goal to inspire 1000 people to become teachers. To celebrate reaching that goal, he recently released a book named after his best known poem, “What Teachers Make.” In the promo video below, actors dramatize the poem. Some would argue that making a video of a poem is a bad idea, that readers should form their own images. In general I agree. However, a good video can act as a powerful hook, drawing in people who might not normally read poetry.
