Third Remix video is released

June 27, 2011

Everything Is a Remix is an eye-opening four-part documentary video series about originality. The first episode deals with music, using Led Zeppelin as an example. The second is about movies and the third – just released – talks about inventions. They average length is less than ten minutes.

The point of the series is that much of what we think is original relies heavily on previous work. Most innovations are incremental, rather than revolutionary. The practice that we now call remixing is nothing new and it’s not evil. It’s the way things are, and we should be aware of that fact.

The films were produced by Kirby Ferguson, a New York-based filmmaker known for comedic short films. The three “Remix” videos are provided free of charge, although Ferguson asks for donations to support his work. The final episode will be released in the fall.
