Attendance in the palm of your hand

August 10, 2010

A while back, ProfHacker posted an article on The Attendance App for iOS devices, where Jason Jones gave the program a glowing review. Today I finally got around to downloading the app on my iPad and checking it out for myself. It looks great!

First I created an imaginary class called “Famous People” and added a few names. Then I found photos in Google images to make things a little more interesting. I tried taking attendance and it was a snap.

Here are a few of the program’s features:

  • Import a roster from a csv file (at ND you can get this from “Online Photo”)
  • Add photos
  • Add a custom status, like “Athletic Excuse”
  • Copy students from one course to another
  • Choose a random student to answer a question
  • Enter notes
  • Print reports

This YouTube video shows the app working on an iPhone, but it also works on an iPod Touch.

For more detail on what the program can do, see the description page at the author’s website – it includes a link to additional video demos. Or you can go straight to it in the App Store.
