I learned new mobile technology notation

December 21, 2009

I was reading this Campus Technology article on how technology will continue to permeate every aspect of higher ed, and read, “Netbooks, online education, social networking, smart phones and podcasting will continue to play a role in the typical student’s life, as will “4:1 computing” as a replacement for the more traditional 1:1.”

I’m so glad they explained it! I hadn’t seen that notation before. 1:1 means one task for one device, which is how mobile devices got started, meaning we had a PDA, and a phone and an MP3 player and a camera , etc.  but 4:1 means FOUR tasks can be done by a single device.

The article is worth scanning for for the top 5 technology trends for 2010. (My personal favorite is the example in #4).
