Check the coffee line on your phone

December 1, 2009

Students at NC State can now use a smartphone to find out how long they’ll have to wait for coffee. Among other features, the mobile-accessible website for NCSU libraries includes a live video stream of the line at the café in the main library.

<< That’s what it looked like when I checked (click to enlarge). Of course, the site also lets you look for books and available computers. Soon students will be able to do more things, like reserve a study room.

It’s important to note that the NCSU site is NOT for iPods only. The site determines what kind of device is trying to view it, and displays itself accordingly.Read more on the Wired Campus blog.

If you’d like to see what mobile-friendly websites look like at some other colleges, the two granddaddys are MIT and Abilene Christian.

It will be nice when Notre Dame has its own mobile website — people are working on it! And in case you didn’t know, this blog will display nicely on a mobile device.
