Technology at Amherst – by the numbers

September 24, 2009

For the second year, Peter Schilling has put together a list of numbers that show how the role of technology is changing at Amherst College. You can see the whole list at Academic Commons., but here are a few tidbits:

  • Over four years the number of outgoing phone calls placed by employees dropped 25%
  • 85% of new computers purchased for employees are laptops
  • In the past year, 294 students registered iPhones or iPod Touches on the network (at the same per-student rate the number would be 2000 at Notre Dame).

I would love to see a similar list developed for our campus, especially with data on the technologies that are used in teaching and learning, like Concourse.

We are working on the numbers for Concourse use and mobile device use (iPhone, iPod Touch, smart phones, etc).
