Fake news: Walkman for every prof

A recent article from the tongue-in-cheek Cronk of Higher Education describes a technology initiative at “Luckington College,” where each faculty member received a Sony Walkman portable audio cassette player (see College Rewinds Technology Plan). This is a cute piece that doesn’t exactly make one ROTFL. Rather, it subtly pokes fun at technology bandwagons, iTunes University, iPad initiatives,the generation gap, and bribing faculty with new toys. Luckington’s president plans to revamp the program in 2011 because there was mixed reaction to his Walkmania. The local pawn shop has sold its last Walkman. No worries, though. Sony is still making them in China – for real – after thirty years!
