NC State provides free online textbook
Starting this semester, students in Physics 211-212 at NC State can access their textbook online for free – or pay $45 for a paper copy in the bookstore – or use the free book and tell their parents they paid for it …. no, wait, they wouldn’t do THAT!
The library at NC State purchased a site license for the book and hopes to do more of the same in the future. You can preview the text, Physics Fundamentals, and read about licensing at the publisher’s website.
I hope this starts a trend. Online book deals could seriously reduce the cost of textbooks. NC State students as a whole stand to save a quarter of a million dollars! Moving away from paper would also make it easier to put up-to-date books in students’ hands
